Boxy Bag/Pouch

I have always wanted to make a bag that looks like a shaving kit. Just one of those things that you could make for a male friend as a gift. I finally tried making one and it doesn't look too bad.

The original videos/blogs I referenced were to use a 12" zipper or larger. When I went to make mine, I only had a 9" zipper. I can definitely say I have made a bag, but I totally recommend a larger zipper. It was quite difficult getting the ends of this bag sewn with the 9" zipper.

Handle Bar Bag

I originally thought of my bicycle when I saw this pattern. I do not like to carry my phone in my pocket when I am riding - for fear it will fall out or I will fall and damage it. I saw this bag and knew I had to make it.

After making this bag (above), I thought about my daughter and her new bed. She now has a loft bed and I thought it would be nice for her to put items in the bag that she might need while on her bed, but not want to forget once she is out of bed (iPod, earbuds, etc). So instead of putting it on my bicycle, I put it on her bed. She saw it and asked if I could make more so she had several hanging from her bed.

This bag (above) is one I recently made so she now has two of them. I am still working on the "many more" she has requested. Since she has requested more, I did save the link for this bag. You can go here to find the instructions.

The picture below shows how they attached to the railing of her bed.

Reversible Purse

These purses are fun to make! They are completely reversible so you can change it whenever you feel like it.

Here are a couple I made with my daughter in mind...

Paper and Crayon Folder

When I saw this, I immediately thought of my mother. She always had crayons and paper in her purse when my daughter was little. It was always nice when we went out to eat and the food took a little bit longer than a little one's patience.

Small Book Bag

When I first saw this bag, I thought what a great bag this would be to carry my Bible and notebook to Bible class. I measured my Bible so I would make the right size. After I finished it and placed my Bible inside, it was too small at the bottom! :( I failed to take into account the area that would be removed to make the box-y bottom. Guess I will just have to try again!

I did save the link for this bag as I will have to remake it. You can find the link here.

Drawstring Purse

This drawstring bag was made from leftover material from making my sweet granddaughter a car seat cover. It is such cute fabric that I had to make it into a purse. Oh, and this drawstring purse has two pockets on the outside! :)

Coin Purse

This coin purse is made from an old measuring tape. So easy to make and you can make them any size you like. They can hold sunglasses, glasses, coins, a first aid kit ... and the list goes on.

Quilt Square Bag

I haven't had much luck making anything from quilt squares until now. Maybe because I used my Big Shot and square framelit to cut the squares!

This was made with some fabric in my fabric box. It turned out to be a little smaller than I wanted it to be, but it is just the right size for my granddaughter!

Here is the back...

Hope you have a great day!

Wet Bag

I made this wet bag from PUL fabric I purchased when I was awaiting the arrival of my granddaughter that was over 2 1/2 years ago! How time flies!

I watched a YouTube video and it reminded me of the fabric so I decided to make a Wet Bag for Ana's swimsuit. I thought it would be a great thing to have so everything else in the big bag would not get wet when she changes from a wet swimsuit into clothes.

Here is how I made it:

I used a 9" zipper and fabric that measured 7" x 22". I used some extra fabric to create the handle - I did not measure this piece, just cut and sewed.

Pin the fabric to the zipper with right side facing down and the zipper facing up. The fabric fits just inside the end/beginning of the zipper. Sew this with the regular sewing foot with the edge of the foot up against the zipper.

Once this is complete, flip the fabric so the right side is facing up and top stitch the fabric just as you did the first time. You may need to help the fabric stay near the zipper - this fabric is slippery and at times, hard to handle.

Now take the opposite end of the fabric and pin as you did when you first started and repeat the first two steps (sewing the fabric to the zipper and then top stitching).

This is what it looks like after you bring the fabric up and sew it onto the zipper.

This is what it looks like when you top stitch the second time

Now to add the handle and sew the sides ...

I tucked the handle into the side where the zipper opens ...

BEFORE you sew up the side, make sure you unzip the zipper (about 1/2 way) or you will not be able to open your bag! Trust me on this!

Sew up both sides. Clip corners if needed and turn the bag inside out. Voila! Your finished bag. I top stitched the sides of the bag to give it a more finished look.

I made the bag below with fabric that measured 12" x 38". This bag is big enough to hold lots of wet items. For little ones, it could hold clothes in the event of an accident or swimsuits for a couple of children.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or send me an email.

Have a great day!

Zippered Pouch

I made this zippered pouch for my daughter.

The fabric was 9" X 12". I doubled the fabric to give it strength and to give the inside a lining. The zipper was 9". I watched a YouTube video by Whitney and followed her instructions to make this.

Play Stove

My granddaughter likes to pretend she is making soup so I recently purchased her a set of cooking items from Pottery Barn Kids. It had a pot, a lid, lettuce, cucumber, carrot, spoon, and oven mitt.

I just happened to be on Skype with her when the box arrived with all the goodies in it. She was so happy!

While surfing through Pinterest, I found a stove made from fabric. I clicked the Pin and it took me to an Etsy shop. After seeing the shop was was overseas and the price, I decided to try my hand at making the stove myself.  My version of the stove does not have a "working" oven door, but I do not think my granddaughter will mind.

This is Ana, my daughter, posing with the stove before I boxed it up.

Turkey Placemats

Aren't these the cutest placemats?

I was surfing the web or Facebook when I came across Somewhat Simple's posting for these cute place mats. I decided I was going to make one for my granddaughter, but then decided to make one for each of my immediate family members. I found the vinyl at JoAnn's and wish I stopped there first as I searched for the vinyl material for two days!

These were so easy to make and it only took about an hour to make nine of these guys. I hope my family likes them and that everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

Special Gift - Part Two

I posted the gift given to me on my blog yesterday.  Today I am revealing what it is.  Did you guess correctly?  It is a pocket size tissue holder!

This is "sew" easy to make!

Instructions:

Cut 1 piece of fabric 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" for the back
Cut 2 pieces of the same fabric 3 1/2" x 4" for the short ends
Cut 2 pieces of contrasting fabric 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" for the long ends

Fold the pieces for the short and long ends in half with right sides facing out.

Lay the pieces as pictured below...

Sew a 1/4" seam around the entire rectangle. Clip the corners, turn inside out, and press.

I was pretty impressed with my first attempt! I had to adjust the measurements to make the flap close - should have adjusted for this before sewing ... Oh well!

Here is my second attempt and finished off with a yo-yo. This is my first attempt at a yo-yo - I thought it was a pretty good one for my first one! As you can see, I did not lay the fabric pieces the same as the first one - I didn't notice this until I was sewing on the yo-yo.

Have a great day!

Special Gift

This was given to me yesterday. They gave them out at the Ladies Day where we now attend church services. I missed the Ladies Day because we were not going there at the time.

Any guesses as to what this is?

Time for Sleep!

Pillowcases made easy!

I turned this fabric ...

.. into these ...

I was wandering around the web and came across Organize & Decorate Everything's website. She showcased how to make pillowcases in a very easy way. I made both of these along with the embroidery in less than two hours! I ran into a couple of snags - broke the sewing needle, bobbin would not wind properly, and the thread broke a couple of times.

Hope you like them! Have a wonderful evening!
